Shawnee Mission Park - Shelter 2 Playground

Set on a wooded slope in Shawnee Mission Park, the Shelter 2 playground is built like a ship. Two yellow sails rise above the deck, a flag flies from the top, and a carved prow with a porthole juts out at the front, so there is a little crew-and-captain story to play into.

Four slides and several ways to climb keep the deck busy, and a ramp leads up to the main structure. The play area is accessible, and the soft rubber surface underfoot is easy on small knees and on wheels. Benches by the edge give grown-ups a place to sit and keep watch.
